Comfort foods are those foods which can cheer you up. Whether you are feeling tired, off color or just in need of something warming, let your crockpot come to the rescue. The great thing about making comfort foods in a crockpot is how easy they are. You might fancy chocolate cake but having to spend an hour preparing it might not be what you are in the mood for.
With a lot of easy crockpot recipes you simply have to decide what comforting food you want, add the ingredients to the crockpot and leave it to cook. Perhaps you know you are going to have a busy day and you will get home exhausted and not in the mood to cook, so why not plan your dinner in advance?

Recipe for Lentil and Ham Soup
This is a great comfort food. Thick, rich lentil and ham soup makes a wonderful dinner at the end of a long and tiring day. Simply chop the vegetables and ham the evening before you want to make this meal, and then simply add the ingredients to the slow cooker in the morning, flick the switch and leave it.
With some crockpot recipes you need to stir them a few times during the cooking time or add ingredients near the end. This is no good if you are going to be out all day, which is why this ham and lentil soup recipe is so good. You do not need to touch it until you get home and it will be ready.
This is one of the most easy crockpot recipes and all you need to do when you get home is ladle a serving of soup from the crockpot to a bowl. Perhaps you fancy some buttered bread for dunking. This is a tasty and comforting soup and this recipe makes enough to serve two people.
What you will need:
  • 1 1/4 cups diced ham
  • 2 cups lentils
  • 2 chopped ribs celery
  • 1 minced clove garlic
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup peeled, diced carrots
  • 2 quarts cold water
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

How to make it:Add the ham, lentils, celery, garlic, bay leaf, onion and carrots to the slow cooker. Add some salt and black pepper, and then stir in the water. Cook on low for about nine hours. Taste the soup, adjust the salt and pepper if necessary and serve hot.
